Movers Insurance Policies
Movers typically carry general liability limits of $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate.
Warehouse Legal Liability
Warehouse legal liability covers goods in storage. Generally movers want a limit adequate to cover an entire loss of the warehouse. Values are determined by the warehouse receipt.
Cargo insurance is part of an inland marine policy and covers household goods while in transit. Unless value is declared by the client, household goods are typically covered at a minimum rate such as .30 cents per pound based on the moving company’s bill of lading.
Property insurance covers property owned by the moving company. Policy coverages include building, business income, and business personal property.
Auto liability or truckers liability covers bodily injury and property damage arising from the operation of your vehicles. The most common limit for movers is a $1 million combined single limit. Auto liability policies also make federal and state filings.
Umbrella & Excess Liability
Umbrella and excess liability policies provide additional limits above the underlying policies. Umbrella policies usually provide additional limits over both auto liability and general liability. Alternatively, excess liability only provides additional limits over general liability. Many buildings in cities such as New York require a minimum umbrella limit of $5 million before they’ll allow movers into the building.
A workers compensation policy covers injuries to workers while on the job. The premium is based on payroll and rates are based on the type of work.
Disability covers injuries to employees while not at work. Disability is mandatory for employers in most states.
Other Insurance Policies
These days lawsuits come from all different angles. To ensure your company assets are properly protected there are several other types of insurance policies to consider including: E&O, Crime, Cyber, EPLI and more.
